Poly Balustrade and Tuscan Columns for E.L.
We just finished installing the railings on our porch. We still need to finish caulking and touching up the paint (which may need to wait until spring!), but the bulk of the installation is complete. Last we spoke, you asked us to provide feedback on our experience with the installation instructions and the poly rail-to-round column kits you graciously sent us.
Overall, the kits were great for the straight/level railing sections. They fit perfectly around the 8″ columns and were unaffected by the slight column taper. The attachment with the provided T-bolts was solid.
Our design had three sections of stair railings, with the upper section of the top and bottom rail attached to a round column (and the lower section attached to a square post). Because of the stairs’ angles, we needed to modify the adapters somewhat in these areas to maintain the correct top and bottom rails angle, but it wasn’t a big deal.
The instructions were helpful and clear. I found it easiest to use an oscillating tool to do a “rough cut” of the coping required to fit around the round columns before refining the curve with an angle grinder. The oscillating tool also worked best for notching the areas of the rail that needed to accommodate the brackets/mounting hardware.
While we still need to finish up the details, we are very happy with the finished product and our overall experience!
Thank you very much for your time and assistance throughout this process! I really appreciate it!
